IELTS ライティングテスト #14 例題 (Relationship with neighbours)

In the past, neighbourslformed anlimportant part of people’s socialllives and they helped them when they had problems. Nowadays, people often do not even know their neighbours and in consequence they live much more isolated lives.

There are a number of reasons why we have less contact withlour neighbours. Firstly, our lifestyleslare more mobile. This means people may changelthe area where they live quite frequently and this causes their relationships withltheir neighbours to be more superficial.lSecondly, nowadays people often live and work in differentlplaces. This leads to people forming closer relationships with work colleagues than the ones they havelwith their neighbours. Finally, modern lifestyles makelus spend more time inside our houses watchingltelevision, and when we go out, we travel by car. Consequently, weldo not speak to the people in ourlneighbourhood so much.

There are a number of ways in which I think contactlbetween neighbours can be improved. First of all, llocal authorities can provide communal areaslsuch as playgrounds for children and community halls so that there are places wherelneighbours can meet and make friends. Next, Ilthink that when new neighbours come to alstreet, the people living there ought to introduce themselves and welcome them. Lastly, peoplelliving in a street or small district should formlneighbourhood associations and meet regularlylto discuss the things which affect them.

In conclusion, these suggestions will probably not makelneighbours as important in our lives as they werelin the past. However, they will help ourlrelationships with our neighbours to become more usefulland valuable.
